About the Timber In Our Reclaimed Oak Dining Table
Boxcar Oak
The boxcar oak featured in our reclaimed dining table is a unique wood that captures the spirit of adventure and wanderlust. Salvaged from decommissioned American trains, each piece of wood has a rich history and character that simply cannot be replicated. The reclaimed nature of the timber means that it has undergone a natural ageing process, giving it a unique patina. The knots, dents, and scratches in the wood all add to the charm and character of this timber, making it a unique addition to any home.
With its deep, rich colour and bold, striking lines, this dining table adds an element of drama and intrigue to any space. The ebonising process gives the oak a distinctively dark finish, adding an extra layer of character and depth. This table is a true statement piece that tells a story, and its use of boxcar oak only adds to its mystique and allure.
Boxcar timber is particularly precious to L’Atelier Mata’s heritage as this is where our story of furniture making began many, many moons ago.
The Table Legs
SquareForm Legs | Nickel
Our SquareForm table legs have a bold appearance, with clean lines and sharp edges. They are typically made from tubular steel giving them an industrial feel. The sharp corners of our SquareForm legs create a distinctive visual contrast against the table top, making them a great choice for our Reclaimed Oak Dining Table.
These legs can be finished in a variety of ways, including powder coating, plating, or left raw for more of an industrial look. With this table, we have we used a nickel plated finish. While nickel and chrome plating may seem similar, we’ve found that nickel is better matched to our legs. The resulting mirrored finish is very glitzy and adds an extra touch of elegance to our pieces.
Our Philosophy
The beauty of this L’Atelier Mata reclaimed table is not only in its unique appearance, but also in its history. The wood used to create it was once part of a boxcar, and has been salvaged, repurposed and given a new life. Each imperfection and mark on the surface tells a story, making every piece truly one-of-a-kind.
The ebonisation process only adds to the character of this table. The natural tannins in the oak are darkened, creating a rich and deep colour that is not only visually stunning but also practical. The ebonised surface is durable and easy to care for, making it a great choice for high-use areas of your home.
This table is not only a piece of functional furniture, but a piece of art as well. The unique character of the wood and the ebonised finish make it a standout piece in any room. Whether used as a dining table, a desk, or simply a beautiful accent in your home, the L’Atelier Mata reclaimed table is sure to be a conversation starter and a beloved piece for years to come.
