100% Hardwood: Embrace the natural beauty and sustainability of solid wood with our exquisite furniture pieces. Not only does timber exude beauty, it’s also a living material that adds warmth and character to your home.

Artisanship: Each piece of furniture is built by hand at our atelier in France, using traditional techniques that ensure strength and longevity.

Repairability: We take pride in our commitment to sustainability and longevity. Our furniture is designed with repairability in mind, ensuring that it can be easily restored if needed. This means that you can enjoy your table for years to come, with the knowledge that it can be restored to its original beauty if necessary.

NO Composite Materials: We never use composite materials like MDF or chipboard in our designs, ensuring that our furniture is of the highest quality and durability. Our commitment to sustainability extends to our design process, with a focus on minimising emissions and maximising the reuse of offcuts.

Provenance: Our wood is FSC-certified, meaning that it comes from responsibly and sustainably managed forests that prioritise biodiversity, social responsibility, and economic benefit. When you choose our burl hornbeam dining table, you’re not just investing in style and quality – you’re also making a responsible choice for the environment.

Dusting: Use a soft, dry cloth to dust the surface of the table regularly to prevent dirt and dust build-up.

Cleaning: If the surface of the table needs to be cleaned, use a gentle cleaner designed for use on acrylic-coated surfaces. Be sure to avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cloths as these can damage the finish on your dining table.

Sunlight: Direct sunlight can cause the colour of the furniture to fade over time. If possible, place the furniture away from windows or use curtains or blinds to block direct sunlight.

Moisture: Moisture can be problematic if left to linger on the tabletop. If any food or liquid gets split directly onto the surface, clean immediately.

Heat: Avoid placing hot objects, such as pots and pans, directly on the surface of the table. Use trivets or placemats to protect the surface from heat damage. When planning the location of your table, consider placing your table 1-2 meters away from a heat source such as a radiator or fireplace.

Handle With Care: Please be warned, these tables are very heavy. If you are planning to move your table, be sure to lift it rather than dragging it across the floor and make sure you have a few extra sets of hands to help. This will help to prevent scratches and other damage to the surface or floors.

Storage: If the table is going to be stored for an extended period of time, cover it with a clean, soft cloth to protect it from dust and scratches.

Shipping: All our furniture comes with free delivery and installation.

Scheduling: Once your burl hornbeam dining table build is complete, we will schedule a delivery time that is convenient for you.

Accessibility: Please ensure that the delivery location is easily accessible and that there is enough room for our delivery team to manoeuvre the table into the desired location. If there are any potential obstacles, such as stairs or tight turns, please let us know in advance so that we can prepare accordingly.

Installation: Our delivery team will be responsible for both delivering and installing your L’Atelier Mata table. They have been trained to handle heavyweight furniture with care and to ensure a safe and professional installation. The team will show you how to attach the base to the table top for future reference.

Inspection: Upon delivery and installation, please inspect the table to ensure that it meets your expectations and that there is no damage. If you notice any issues, please let us know.

Disposal of Packaging: Our delivery team will dispose of all packaging materials and clean up the area after installation is complete.

The Timber

Hornbeam

Burl hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) is known for its incredible strength and durability. It is a hardwood with a high density, which makes it resistant to scratches, dents, and other types of damage – which makes it great for dining tables and other furniture!

The tone of the timber varies from light to dark, with a warm golden hue and occasional reddish-brown undertone that add depth. Its tone is rich and complex, with a texture that feels both smooth and textured to the touch. Hornbeam is known for its swirling grain. The burls, or unusual growths on the tree, create intricate and swirling patterns that give the wood a three-dimensional quality and a sense of movement.

We love working with this timber – it’s equal measures unusual and gorgeous!

The Table Base

SquareForm Legs | Stainless Steel

Our SquareForm table legs have a bold appearance, with clean lines and sharp edges. They are typically made from tubular steel giving them an industrial feel. The sharp corners of our SquareForm legs create a distinctive visual contrast against the table top, making them a great choice for our Burl Hornbeam Dining Table.

It is our opinion that stainless steel exudes an industrial yet refined aesthetic that matches modern interiors. The sleek and durable metal is a perfect choice for creating table legs that will stand the test of time, both in terms of durability and design.

Our Philosophy

At L’Atelier Mata, we are passionate about what we do and we take great pride in crafting each piece of furniture by hand. Our hunt for unique and exceptional boards of timber takes us across Europe & the UK, enabling us to create bespoke dining tables, coffee tables, mirrors, mantles and many more one-of-a-kind pieces.

We believe in the power of visual simplicity. With over 15 years of experience, we have honed our skills to focus on strong lines, perfect proportions and powerful detail. These elements have the ability to bring out the inherent beauty of raw timber. We are inspired by classical form and the idea that “less is more”- this allows us to create dining tables that have a timeless, elemental character. With meticulous attention to detail at every stage of the design and manufacturing process, we ensure that every piece is perfect before it leaves our atelier.

Our team has been working together for almost two decades, giving us a wealth of knowledge and a deep sense of pride in our work. Whether it’s a residential or commercial project, we deliver on budget, on schedule, and with utmost precision.
